A Pike County supervisor who is leaving office at the end of the year will continue to serve on the board of trustees for a regional planning and development district.
Tazwell Bowsky’s position on the Southwest Mississippi Planning and Development District board is one of four expiring at the end of the month. The others belong to fellow Supervisor Robert Accardo, Pike County Economic Development District Executive Director Jill Busby and county resident Amile Ashley.
Accardo said he would like to continue to serve on the board, and Supervisor Sam Hall said the same about Bowsky.
“Mr. Bowsky, I would like to see you continue to serve,” he said.
Bowsky and Busby agreed to be reappointed, and supervisors agreed to contact Ashley to see if he would be willing to serve another term.
The decision follows a request from McComb City Administrator David Myers to appoint McComb’s mayor to the board.
“The City of McComb, the largest municipality in the county, is underrepresented on that board. The mayor of the City of McComb should have a spot on that board,” Myers told supervisors in June.
In another matter, the board agreed to reappoint Bettye Nunnery to the Library board representing District 1.
In other business, the board:
• Hired Carlita Dorsey as a corrections officer and accepted the retirements of Linda Moore from justice court and Melvich Weathersby in the road department.
• Heard from Donald Hodges, a former resident of Highway 51 North in Magnolia, who said he’s still receiving county garbage bills for a house where he no longer lives, and the county has turned the matter over to debt collectors.
