Linemen were working to restore power to customers in McComb who were thrust into darkness after a vehicle knocked over a utility pole late Wednesday morning.
Police had Park Drive blocked off at Gay Street just before noon. A utility pole could be seen lying in the intersection.
Entergy officials reported that more than 400 customers were affected by the outage. Many of them were expected to have electricity restored by 6 p.m., by which time power had been restored to all but 51 customers. Those still left in the dark were expected to have power restored by 9 p.m., Entergy said.
"A vehicle has hit our equipment. Our crews are on site making repairs," Entergy said.
UPDATE: At 11 p.m. Wednesday, Park Drive was still closed near Gay Street and the corner of Douglas Park.
