A Wilkinson County man was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison Thursday for killing a woman he was in a relationship with by shooting her five times.
A jury deliberated for 40 minutes before finding Brandon DeJohnette guilty in the Nov. 19, 2018, death of Mirrander McClain.
District Attorney Shameca Collins said DeJohnette had accused McClain, a Head Start teacher, of cheating on him.
DeJohnette fled to Baton Rouge, where East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies apprehended him.
Judge Lillie Blackmon Sanders imposed the life sentence.
“The loss of a family member is always tough. It’s especially tough when that loss is a result of the actions of someone who became a part of the family,” District Attorney Shameca Collins said.
