A company with groceries in several Mississippi cities has signed a lease to open a store in the McComb site being vacated this weekend by Kroger.
Information about the agreement came from a local official who did not identify the company.
There also was no information about when a formal announcement would come or when the new grocery store would open.
Nor was there any way to confirm whether the new store would use only the Kroger site or include the adjoining CVS drugstore, which also closed.
Cincinnati-based Kroger announced in late December that its McComb store would close on Jan. 29 after more than 40 years in operation, and McComb was reportedly among a number of smaller-market stores to close.
Meanwhile, negotiations reportedly continue for another company to open a grocery store in McComb. Further information about that company’s plans was unavailable.
Robert Lang, the Vice President of Real Estate for Kamin Realty, which owns the shopping center, said last month that his company was seeking new tenants for the two stores and that there was “a good bit of interest for that shopping center.”
He said an announcement about new tenants could be expected in the first quarter of 2022, and news would come from the stores, not the shopping center owner.
Lang said Kamin is looking to make some improvements to the shopping center in the near future.
CVS and Kroger officials said employees would be offered jobs at other stores within the company.
The news of Kroger’s replacement is good for McComb, Pike County chamber of Commerce Executive Director Catherine Sanders said.
“I’m excited that another grocery store is already filling the void of that space,” she said.
