Amite County supervisors took a break during their board meeting Monday to step across the street and attend the funeral of former longtime county comptroller Betty Doucet of Liberty.
Mrs. Doucet died Dec. 28 at age 73. She served as county comptroller from 1992 to 2009. She also served on the county election commission and the Liberty town board.
Her services were held 11 a.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home in Liberty.
As for the board meeting, supervisors renewed their slate of annual appointments:
• District 3 Supervisor Jackie Whittington as board president.
• District 4 Supervisor Butch Graves, vice president.
• District 2 Supervisor Guy McNabb, secretary.
• Jones Law Group as board attorney.
• Murry Toney, veterans services officer.
• Brittani Dixon, purchase clerk.
• David Cothren, county engineer.
• Sara Hemphill, county and youth court prosecutor and family master.
• Jana Causey, inventory control clerk.
• Melanie Netterville, justice court clerk.
• Jessica Cook, deputy justice court clerk.
• Lisa Sullivan, solid waste clerk, assistant receiving clerk and assistant purchase clerk.
• Gretel Morales, receiving clerk.
• Grant McCurley, arson investigator, civil defense director, 911 coordinator and area fire coordinator.
The only new appointment was Amy Ryan as youth court referee to replace Mary Blalock in that position. Blalock was earlier named special master to replace Reggie Jones, who retired from that position.
