Quarantines rose at most area school campuses last week as the omicron variant of COVID-19 continues to transmit throughout the region.
State health officials said Tuesday 23,501 students were in quarantine throughout Mississippi last week, while 4,000 teachers and staff and 14,137 students have been infected with the virus
North Pike had 47 students in quarantine at the elementary school, 42 at the high school, 74 at the middle school and 56 at its upper elementary, according to state health data.
North Pike High School had 50 students out last week with confirmed infections, while the lower elementary had 18, the middle school had 14 and the upper elementary had eight.
South Pike had 14 students in quarantine at Osyka Elementary, 11 at the high school and four at the junior high. South Pike High School had 14 confirmed student infections last week, while Osyka Elementary and the junior high had fewer than five.
North Pike High School had six teachers and staff out with the virus last week, while all other area schools had fewer than five.
Amite County Elementary School had eight confirmed student infections and 17 students in quarantine last week. Elsewhere, Tylertown High School had 117 student in quarantine and 13 students with confirmed infections last week.
No information was reported from McComb schools.
