The small town of Summit was on lockdown Thursday afternoon after two police officers were shot. Summit officer Troy Floyd has been confirmed dead, while McComb officer Joey Roberts was wounded.
The suspected gunman has been killed, according to reports.
A female suspect was also reportedly apprehended.
Summit and McComb are adjoining towns in Pike County near the Louisiana line.
Roberts was wounded in one leg and was able to return fire. The confrontation reportedly occurred at a Summit police checkpoint near the Piggly Wiggly grocery store on Highway 51, one block from Robb Street. Highway 51 was blocked off.
Roberts was treated and released at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb. He walked out of the hospital about 3:15 p.m.

"Just a little through-and-through," Roberts said, pointing to his upper right leg as he left the emergency room, clad in an Ole Miss T-shirt and blue shorts.
One of his relatives asked, "Can you go back to being a fireman now?" Roberts responded that was a more dangerous job.
Shooting began about 1:30 p.m. A resident who lives near Piggly Wiggly said he heard gunshots while eating lunch. Shortly after, police surrounded the area and told people to go inside and lock the doors. The resident then heard another series of gunshots, with more police and emergency services arriving.
Officers stated that the area surrounding Baldwin Street, West Railroad Avenue and Robb Street were in an active crime scene investigation. Vehicle traffic and pedestrians were advised to stay away from the area.
