The centennial homecoming for J.J. White Memorial Presbyterian Church this weekend will be part of McComb’s 150th anniversary celebration.
J.J. White’s homecoming is Saturday and Sunday.
The homecoming will be capped off with a cornerstone ceremony, rededication and celebration. At the conclusion of the service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, the copper box that rested in cornerstone until July 2021 will be refilled with historical images and data for descendants to open 100 years from now.
“This is shaping up to be such an exciting weekend,” said Beth Wild, co-chair of the centennial homecoming. “We have heard from former staff, members and friends from across the country that they are coming, so not only will this be a celebration of 100 years in our beautiful sanctuary as J. J. White Memorial Presbyterian Church, it will also be a grand reunion — a true Centennial Homecoming.”
Following an organ concert with David Ryall at 1 p.m. Saturday, tours and tales will follow at 2. Six tours will have 15-minute segments about the church.
Dr. Lynn Miller will have a tour on architecture, Dr. Robbie DeCoux will talk about the history of the church, Dr. Roger Nickerson will focus on musical treasures, John Drummond and Phil Terrell will highlight missions accomplished, Margaret Ann Macloud and Charles Ray will talk about Camp Sunshine, and Janet Stewart and Nathan Wells will have a tour on the church’s Scouting heritage.
Sunday School is at 9:15 a.m., worship service with the Rev. Dr. Steve Ramp follows at 10:30.
The worship service will have music featuring soloist Jeremy Threlfall, pianist Jennifer Sanders and Ryall.
