Together Everyone Achieves More — TEAM.
As I looked up the definition for the word “team,” I was swamped with many meanings. Finally I found the right one for the situation: When people work together to achieve a common goal.
This means that members of a group work together to overcome each other’s flaws despite personal conflicts, and achieve a goal that would otherwise be impossible.
I have a deep appreciation for South Pike. I retired from there, my children are graduates, my grandchildren attend, I have relatives and children of friends attending also. As I write this letter, it is not in judgment, pointing a finger, taking sides, playing the blame game or showing favoritism.
I believe, like many others, we want what’s best for the school district. That does require someone taking the lead, but still working together. We have to learn to agree to disagree.
The bottom line is, it’s about the students. Whatever decisions are made, I believe they should revolve around the students, and what’s best for the district.
I read in the Jan. 29 paper that South Pike will not renew superintendent Dr. Angela Lowery’s contract. I’m not questioning the board’s decision because I don’t know what all was involved in making the decision. As I continued reading the article, it said, “The South Pike school board has a record of replacing superintendents after three years.”
I wish Dr. Lowery the best as she exits her role as superintendent. I’m praying, and asking others to pray, for South Pike, and that the next superintendent will go beyond the three years and build stability.
Let’s look ahead to what can be and not look at what has been. Be part of the solution and not the problem.

Air collision won't be the last tragedy
My husband Seth picks on me a lot because of all the different sayings I have. The one I use most is, “You never know,” and how very true this proved to be last week on the Potomac River in Washington, D.C.
Who could have predicted the tragedy that night, where a jetliner collided with a military helicopter? The moment I heard about it, my first thought was, “Titanic.” I realize that with the sinking of the Titanic, so very many lives were lost, but the same feeling hit me.
There is one thing we all have to remember, at least as far as we know now, and that this was absolutely not a terrorist attack. It was not caused by any known enemies we might have.
So what am I saying? That God has plans for all of our lives — many that we don’t expect, and many that we don’t want to accept.
This is not the only tragedy that has happened, and it won’t be the last. But there are some things we cannot control.
We do have someone to lean on when these things happen: the same One who is always there for us. Just remember that there are some things that are going to happen. There is no way we can change them. We just have to learn to accept it, like it or not, for better or for worse.
We cannot deny the fact that this tragedy has brought us to our knees. We are all united by our profound sorrow and grief. This is not one of those things that can be swept under the rug. Our hearts and souls will ache for a long, long time.
I realize that we are not in this world so things can go our way. We’re here so they can go God’s way, for whatever reasons He may have.
May our Father in Heaven hold these dear loved ones who have so tragically left us where they may be at peace and rest in his loving arms.
