I would like to share information about Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center and thank Dr. Chris Shiepis and the Ambulatory Surgery Center and staff.
On Jan. 30, I was scheduled for a procedure. My husband and I arrived at the hospital at 7:20 a.m. After waiting about five minutes, I was called to check in.
I don’t remember the name of the person, but she was very friendly and courteous. Shortly after check-in, I was taken to the back. It was the normal routine when preparing for any type of procedure or surgery.
The nurse was wonderful. She had a genuine concern and care. The anesthesiologist came in to introduce himself and ask routine questions. Then Dr. Shiepis came in to see how I was doing before the procedure. Everyone made me feel so relaxed.
From the time of check-in, I was treated with care, concern and respect.
Next it was time to be taken to where the procedure would be done. Even the person who rolled me there was very caring and reassuring of everything.
As I was rolled into the room, everything was being finalized for the procedure. There were three to four people there. They also were very professional and caring. That’s the last thing I remember before going under, if you know what I mean.
The next thing I remember is waking up in recovery. The ladies there said everything had gone well. They attended to whatever I needed. They were awesome, right up until I was discharged.
I wish I could remember everyone’s name who assisted that day because I want them to know how much I appreciated each one of them. Thank you also to Dr. Shiepis. I couldn’t have been treated any better. I’m so grateful.
I especially thank God for placing me in the best of care. Bless you all.

A close brush with death
Sometimes when we get kind of down and out, we hear about something that changes everything.
I’m talking about the article in the Jan. 30 edition about Mia Montalvo. After reading it, if you don’t believe in miracles, something must be seriously wrong with you.
This young lady realizes what a close brush with death she had in an accident on Interstate 55. Some folks would say that she is lucky to still be here today, not to mention avoiding paralysis. But when you think about it, you’ll realize that luck didn’t have anything to do with it.
Things can happen to us so quickly that it’s scary. A few years ago I fell and broke a rib, and I still don’t know just how it happened. All I know is I have never been in that kind of pain in my life. It taught me a valuable lesson: no matter what you are doing, keep your mind focused and always be super-careful.
Ms. Montalvo said she realizes she shouldn’t have been driving with so little sleep. But we cannot always keep some accidents from happening, no matter how vigilant we are. Still, being careful is the best defense.
After reading about some of the things Ms. Montalvo experienced when she wrecked, I am amazed that she is not in any worse shape than she is. It could have been much worse. To say the Lord was watching out for her is a major understatement.
I just imagine that if anyone knows the meaning of “having a new lease on life,” it’s Ms. Montalvo. This is one experience she will never forget.
I feel like she has great and wondrous things ahead for her. I believe the Lord has something very special in mind for her. I just hope I’m blessed to be around to see just what it is.
