Folks, I’m pretty sure that any of you who have followed my writings know just how much of an animal lover I am. Well, I saw a story recently that absolutely made me want to cry — not from sadness but from happiness.
It seems a young couple, who were planning on getting married soon, found a young dog by the side of the road somewhere in Arkansas. This really young couple, God bless them, took the little dog, who was shivering and afraid and obviously in bad shape, and you’ll never guess what they did.
They drove the injured dog over 300 miles to the animal hospital at Mississippi State University. At first, the veterinarian thought he would have to amputate the dog’s two hind legs, but as it turned out he was able to save them. (Ain’t God good? Always!)
So what did these Good Samaritans do? They put their wedding on hold, I think till next spring, so they could use the money they’d saved up to pay the bill for Maple, their name for the dog.
Don’t tell me there aren’t still good people in the world. Because I just told you about two of them.
Let me ask a question. Just how many other folks do you think would have done what these two young people did?
Not very many, I can assure you. They spent all the money they had saved up for their wedding on a dog that they found by the roadside, a dog that might well not have lived. And out of the goodness of their hearts, they drove 300 miles to help him.
Of course, I don’t know the parents of these two young people, but I commend them for the way they raised their children.
To the two young people, I pray that the Good Lord blesses you in every way possible, and especially in your upcoming marriage. I just want to say that with all the love in your hearts for a poor, hurt little stray like Maple, I certainly don’t think you two will ever have to worry about a failed marriage.
Because of the love you two showed Maple, I sincerely believe the love the two of you have for each other will be astronomical.
