I want to take a moment to reflect and express my gratitude for such a memorable night in McComb’s story.
I am speaking of Shuffle to the Chefs 2025, benefiting the great work of St. Andrew’s Mission. As a board member of St. Andrew’s, I am admittedly biased — but I am in continuous awe of what we are able to accomplish, when we work together — neighbors helping neighbors.
As I stood in the McComb Mill on a frigid January night, I was also strangely warmed by the sense of community and kinship that I saw shared with so many of such a vast array of folks. All walks of life, varying levels of socioeconomic status, a sea of different circumstances, all working together towards a greater good.
From the savory smells of Henry Green’s Tasty Smoke barbecue, to the sweet scent of The Mallard’s bread pudding, to the decadent dishes of ChaQuan’s Catering, to the sensational servings of White Pillars, La Mariposa, and so many more — not only was I physically nourished and fulfilled — my soul, too, was nourished and filled to overflowing. Such hope. Such unity. Such goodness.
We are far more capable than we tend to believe. I like to think our Creator would have us build longer tables and would have us to be so busy with unity and communion at those tables, that we forget what a fence is.
While there may have been other events happening concurrently, the overwhelming turnout and enthusiasm for Shuffle to the Chefs speak volumes about the strength of our community and the shared commitment to lifting one another up. It’s a reminder that when we invest in each other, we all rise together.
I thank the City of McComb, the McComb Police Department, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, a host of volunteers, almost two dozen chefs, our many business sponsors and partners, and each and every one of those in attendance — for what I believe is a night that reflected the very best of McComb. We thank you.
