“Take it one step at a time; trust your medical team; have a positive attitude; lean on your friends and family; and pray!”
This is a quote from Dr. Dawn Sumrall in the fall 2023 Southwest Health magazine. She has a beautiful picture on the cover.
The reason for the quote is because she is a breast cancer survivor. She was responding to a question about what advice she would give to patients going through breast cancer.
You may be wondering why I am quoting from a 2023 magazine. I do so with much respect because she is my OB/GYN doctor and has been for many years.
On a recent appointment, she worked with such joy. She is an inspiration. She has always been a positive person with a great concern for her patients.
She was able to go back to work after extensive treatments and radiation. The article said, “After completion of the four combined chemotherapy drugs, surgery was performed, and recovery was successful.”
She spoke well of her staff, which took charge and cared for her own patients when she couldn’t be there. Along with her staff, friends and family, she talked about the support she got from her husband Hiram.
Thank you, Dr. Sumrall, for sharing your journey with humility and thanksgiving. You are more than a breast cancer survivor — you are a light.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16
