I read the letter from Mr. Leonard H. Blanton Sr. of Florence, printed in the Jan. 4, 2024 edition. In the letter he is quoted, “It seems to me to be all about control, not abortion.”
I don’t know whose “control” he is referring to, but since he addressed government, perhaps that is his focus. I quote from Romans 13. It is lengthy, so I will edit verses 1, 3 and 4.
Verse 1: “Let every soul be subject to the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.”
Verse 3: “For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil.”
Verse 4: For he is the minister of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.”
If we desire to be good citizens and to please our Creator and Savior, we will be subject to lawful authority.
In the normal course of a woman’s life in her child-bearing years, there will be a monthly period in which her body produces eggs. If these eggs receive no seed from a man, they tend to self-destruct according to nature, no harm done.
If, however, a man plants his seed in the woman and she conceives (the egg hatches), a human being is produced according to our Creator’s plan.
If the child is wanted and loved, there is no problem. A problem arises only when the child is not wanted (hated?), and those responsible begin to think of ways to destroy the baby.
They may actively seek permission from the government to legally kill the child, such as Roe vs. Wade or a constitutional amendment. In the words of our Creator, “Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God made he man.” Genesis 9:6.
Yes, if this unborn child is allowed to live and develop, it will become a man or a woman, and who knows what good things it may do? Aren’t you glad your mother loved you enough not to kill you?
We have all sinned, but with such a great promise as an everlasting life with no pain or tears, why would we want to continue in sin? I submit that we have the education to solve the abortion problem available to us at low cost from our own Bible.
