Just a few months after starting the job, first-year head coach Les George has completed his coaching staff, and he has put together a group equipped with years of experience within multiple levels of play.
The following are brief bios of each coach beginning with George:
Les George
Veteran coach Les George is in his first year as the Head Coach of the Bear Football Team. George is no stranger to the MACCC.
The East Central High School graduate played at Mississippi Gulf Coast where he earned All-Region 23 and All-MACJC honors during his sophomore year in 2006. He finished his undergrad at Bacone College earning a degree in Sports Management.
George then returned to his home state and attended graduate school at Belhaven where he spent three seasons coaching the offensive line. George helped make a difference for the Blazers' offense in 2012 in rushing offense and touchdowns as it ranked among the top 12 teams in the nation for both while also setting school single season and game records in both categories.
George coached Matt Hall who earned All-American Southwest Conference and AFCA NAIA First Team All-American honors in addition to being named a finalist for the Conerly Trophy.
Following his time at Belhaven, George returned to Gulf Coast as coach of the offensive line, where he was a part of the national championship team in 2019. He also coached 30 players who moved on to play at four-year programs.
Prior to coming to Southwest, George was the Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line Coach at Holmes. While in Goodman, George helped lead the 2024 Bulldogs to their first playoff appearance since 2003.
Among the players under George's leadership were Martinas Rankin, Percy Lewis, Markel Bell and D'Marcus Hayes. Rankin was the most recruited community college lineman in the country in addition to being named All-SEC. Following his time at Mississippi State, Rankin was a third-round pick by the Houston Texans in the 2018 NFL draft.
Like Rankin, Hayes, Lewis and Bell were also highly ranked recruits. Hayes also earned an All-Region 23 nod.
George and his wife Chelsey are the parents of three daughters: Lucy, Louise and Laura.
Earvin Moore
Earvin Moore is in his first season as a member of the Bears Football staff. He is the Co-Offensive Coordinator/Director of Recruiting and will be in charge of wide receivers.
A coaching veteran with over 12 years of experience, Moore brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to Southwest.
Moore graduated from Stone High School where he rushed for over 3,500 yards and was an All-State running back for the Tomcats.
Afterward, he attended Mississippi Gulf Coast where he won the Harold "War Daddy" White Award and was a member of the 2007 NJCAA National Championship Team and the 2008 State Championship Team.
Upon graduation, he played at Nicholls State as a running back for the Colonels.
Following his time in Thibodaux, LA he began his coaching career back at Gulf Coast as the Running Backs Coach and Assistant Director of Recruiting.
Following a six-year run with the Bulldogs, he spent the 2018 season coaching running backs at Hinds before two separate stints as Offensive Coordinator at Brusly High School in Louisiana from 2019-21 and 2024. In between those two runs was a stop at Port Allen High School in Louisiana as the Offensive Coordinator.
During the 2018 season at Brusly, he helped lead the team to their first appearance in the state quarterfinals in school history. In addition, the 2018 Panther offense set school records for rushing yards, passing touchdowns and receiving touchdowns in a season.
Moore was also an intern with the Cleveland Browns in 2014 working with the Player Personnel department.
Moore and his wife Whitley are the parents of a son, Samuel. Moore also has a goddaughter, Imani Sam.
Carter Hankins
Carter Hankins is in his first season as an assistant coach for the Bears. Hankins is a Co-Offensive Coordinator and will work with quarterbacks.
The Purvis-native comes to Summit following one season at Holmes where he was the Quarterbacks Coach. He was part of the staff that helped the Bulldogs make their first playoff appearance in 21 years.
The Forrest County AHS graduate shined on the gridiron and diamond in college prepping at Pearl River and Northwestern State before finishing at Southern Miss as a member of the Golden Eagle football team.
After graduation, Hankins stayed in Hattiesburg as a graduate assistant coach for five years. While there he coached two-time Sun Belt All-Conference selection Frank Gore Jr. In addition, he was also on the staff who won the 2022 Lending Tree Bowl.
Hankins obtained two masters degrees from Southern Miss, one in Sports Management and the other in Coaching and Sports Performance. He got his bachelor's degree in 2018 in Liberal Studies, also from USM.
Hankins is the son of Brad and Shannon Hankins and has a sister, Caroline. Hankins' father is no stranger to coaching as well as he is the head football coach at Purvis High School.
Darius Buck
Veteran coach Darius Buck is in his first season as a member of the Bear coaching staff. He'll be the Defensive Coordinator for Southwest.
Buck brings 13 years of experience to Summit and is no stranger to the MACCC.
He began his career at Jones where he spent two years with the Bobcats and was part of the 2013 MACJC Staff of the Year. He then moved on to South Alabama as a graduate assistant for another two years coaching defensive backs and special teams before a pair of three-year stints, the first at Albany State coaching cornerbacks and the punt return team and the second at Clark-Atlanta as the Defensive Coordinator for the Panthers.
He spent the past three seasons at Co-Lin where he was in charge of the defensive backs. While in Wesson he was part of the 2023 MACCC Staff of the Year. That same year, the Wolves finished as conference runners up.
The Vicksburg-native played football at Murray State where he graduated in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in Health and Exercise Science. In 2017 he earned his master's degree in Health Education from South Alabama.
Chris Stamps
Chris Stamps is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Bear Football Team. Stamps is in charge of the linebackers.
Stamps, a Vicksburg-native prepped at Warren Central where he was named All-State twice and played in the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star game. He played two years at Mississippi State, one year at Northwest Mississippi and finished his undergrad at Middle Tennessee State.
After graduation, he stayed at MTSU as a strength and conditioning intern before taking a role as a graduate assistant at Mississippi Delta in 2020, coaching linebackers.
He then transitioned to a cornerbacks coach at East Central also for one season before taking a job as a graduate assistan,t coaching defensive backs at the University of Buffalo in 2022.
Stamps took a job as a Defense Quality Control Coach in 2023 in the XFL before returning home to Mississippi State. He spent two years in Starkville coaching linebackers in 2023 and coaching safeties in 2024.
In his five years as a coach, Stamps has coached NFL players Dee Williams of the New York Giants and Nathaniel "Bookie" Watson of the Cleveland Browns. He also coached Michael Coats Jr. who signed with the University of Nevada and is currently at West Virginia.
Terrence Cody
Terrence Cody enters his first season as assistant coach with the Bears. He will be in charge of the defensive linemen. Cody has found success as a defensive lineman on the junior college, four-year collegiate and national levels winning championships on all three.
A native of Fort Myers, Florida, Cody began his collegiate playing career at Mississippi Gulf Coast where he was named an NJCAA All-American First Team honoree and was a member of the NJCAA Co-National Championship Team.
After his playing career in Perkinston, Cody enrolled at the University of Alabama where he earned several accolades including a BCS National Championship, an SEC Championship, multiple All-American Awards, SEC First Team honors and was a finalist for the Bednarik and Lombardi Awards and the Nagurski Trophy.
Cody was a second-round pick (57th overall) by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2010 NFL Draft. He spent five seasons with the Ravens and was a part of the team that won Super Bowl XLVII in 2012 giving Cody his third national championship.
Following his playing career, Cody spent a season as a volunteer coach at Dora High School in Alabama.
Cody is the father of two daughters, Talia Cody and Kalia Cody.
