Southwest's softball team played East Mississippi in a doubleheader Sunday, winning both games 14-6 and 6-5.
In Game One, Allie Ladnier pitched all five innings for the Lady Bears and picked up the win with five strikeouts.
Southwest quickly went up 5-0 after the first with a Tristan Allen home run scoring the final two runs of the inning.
After East Mississippi put up three runs in the third inning, the Lady Bears responded with another five-run inning to go up 10-3 in the contest.
A Corin Talbot homer put Southwest up 7-3.
Next, a Jana Phillips triple scored two more runs to push the score to 9-3.
Tristan Allen singled to score the final run of the inning and give Southwest a 10-3 lead.
East Mississippi wasn’t done yet as they put up three more runs to make the score 10-6 favoring the Lady Bears.
Southwest went into the bottom of the fifth leading still with a chance to win on a run rule.
They would go on to do exactly that.
After the bases loaded on a walk and a pair of singles, Kate Clements came to the plate with a chance to extend the Lady Bear lead.
Clements would do more than just extend the lead, as she hit a grand slam to put Southwest up 14-6 and end the game by run rule in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Kate Clements had five RBIs with Jana Phillips and Tristan Allen each having three apiece. Corin Talbot had two and Alexis Dejean had one.
Alexis Dejean led the team with three hits. Tristan Allen had two hits including a home run. Six other Lady Bears had a hit.
Kate Clements and Corin Talbot each had a home run as well.
Hannah Adams stole a base in the game.
In Game Two, Ballard Kraft started on the mound.
Mary Claire Salley took over for Kraft and pitched 5.0 innings with four strikeouts.
Corin Talbot pitched the final 1.2 innings and picked up the win for the Lady Bears.
Game Two was a much closer contest that saw Southwest trail early.
East Mississippi quickly took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but by the end of the fourth the game was tied 3-3.
The three Southwest runs came on a Kate Clements solo home run, an Alexis Dejean single and a Bailey McLin single.
East Mississippi came back after two scoreless innings with two runs in the top of the sixth to take a 5-3 lead over Southwest.
A three-run bottom of the sixth would give the Lady Bears a 6-5 lead that would eventually be the final score.
Madalyn Ashford got it started with a double then scored on a Bailey McLin single to cut the lead down to one.
Bailey McLin scored next on a Corin Talbot single to tie the game at 5-5.
An Alexis Dejean sac fly scored Talbot and gave the Lady Bears the lead at 6-5.
Corin Talbot would hold off East Mississippi on the mound in the top of the seventh, giving Southwest the win and a sweep on the afternoon.
Kate Clements led the team with three hits including a home run. Bailey McLin followed with two hits of her own, and six other Lady Bears had a hit in the contest.
Alexis Dejean and Bailey McLin each had two RBIs. Corin Talbot and Kate Clements both had one.
Corin Talbot and Madalyn Ashford each had a double in the game.
Southwest would win Game Two 6-5 to finish 2-0 on the day.
The Lady Bears (16-3, 2-0) will head to Meridian on Wednesday on an eight-game win streak to take on Meridian Community College in a doubleheader.
