A former Lawrence County deputy tax collector will serve a year of house arrest after pleading guilty Monday to embezzling more than $21,000, State Auditor Shad White announced.
Hollie Summers was arrested by agents with the auditor’s office in November 2023. She admitted to reversing transactions for vehicle registration and renewals and then taking the cash payments for herself, White said in a news release.
She was sentenced to five years, including one year of house arrest and four suspended, along with four years post-release supervision. She also was ordered to pay $21,710 restitution.
“Thank you to our dedicated team of investigators and to the prosecutors who chose to indict,” White said. “We’ve recovered more taxpayer money in the last five years than in any other five-year period, and we’re going to keep going.”
White said a $50,000 surety bond covers Summers’ employment as a Lawrence County Tax Collector Clerk.
