The Henderson 18U junior tennis team, based out of FitLife Sportsplex in McComb, delivered an outstanding performance at the Mississippi State USTA Junior Team Tennis Tournament in Ridgeland this summer, finishing as state runners-up in the 18-and-under division.
Made up of student-athletes from schools across the area — including Loyd Star, North Pike, Bogue Chitto, and Parklane Academy — the team represented both FitLife and their communities with competitive fire and commendable sportsmanship.
FitLife Connection Fuels Team Success
The team’s foundation was built at FitLife Sportsplex, where players trained together, developed chemistry, and learned to compete as one. Their strong showing at the district championship in Brookhaven launched them to state, where they continued to prove that teamwork and hard work win matches.
“This group truly represents what FitLife is about — developing athletes who support each other, compete with intensity, and grow as both players and people,” said a team coordinator.
Standout Performances Across the Board
Each member of the Henderson team played an important role in the tournament:
• Ady Locke (Loyd Star) served as team captain and was an integral part of the team’s success. She went undefeated throughout the tournament, leading with poise and consistency. Her leadership and performance were key to the team’s momentum, and we look forward to seeing her continue her tennis career this fall at Co-Lin.
• Russell Watts (Bogue Chitto) anchored the boys doubles team, securing three wins during the tournament. His ability to work seamlessly with different partners and bring steady energy both on and off the court was inspiring to the entire team.
• Charlie Kate Garrett (North Pike), a foundational member of the team since its formation, typically plays singles in school competition. But during the tournament, she showcased her versatility by shifting to doubles — providing calm guidance and strong court awareness that helped elevate her pairings.
Parklane Athletes Play Pivotal Roles
Also central to the team’s success were four Parklane Academy students:
• Lylian Melton (17), a senior, brought leadership and heart to the team. Even when she wasn’t competing in the final match, she made the drive to Ridgeland to cheer on her teammates, reflecting her deep commitment.
• Peyton Stone (14), entering 9th grade, delivered two clutch singles wins, stepping up as the team’s go-to boys' singles player with calm determination.
• Anistyn Henderson (14) opened the tournament with both singles and doubles victories and remained actively engaged, offering encouragement from the sidelines when not competing.
• Alvin Zhang (13), the youngest team member, earned one singles and two doubles wins, showcasing maturity, resilience, and exceptional composure against older opponents.
More Than a Match
While the second-place finish was a major achievement, the tournament’s focus on sportsmanship, teamwork, and character made the experience even more meaningful. Team captains were asked to nominate players from other teams for their attitude and integrity — a reflection of the values this group carried with them throughout the weekend.
With their results, the Henderson 18U Junior Tennis Team has proven to be more than just a collection of talented players — they are a united, disciplined group built through shared effort at FitLife Sportsplex. Their success is a testament to what happens when local talent is nurtured in the right environment.
