Donald Trump must not believe his claim that Robert Mueller’s report is a “complete and total exoneration” of Trump’s presidency.
If Trump did believe it, there would be no need for him to continue to attack Mueller’s work and those who talked to the special counsel, including some former presidential aides.
Mueller did absolve Trump and his campaign of colluding with the Russians to influence the 2016 presidential election. The meddling did occur, the investigation confirmed, but there was no evidence that it was coordinated with Trump or his camp.
As far as the other serious charge, obstruction of justice, if Trump is innocent of that, it’s not for the president’s lack of trying. The president should thank his aides who refused to follow his instructions to intervene in the investigation, rather than vilify them.
