In the second round of the MHSAA 3A playoffs South Pike’s girls basketball team endured through a defensive battle but ultimately fell to second-seeded Tylertown by a score of 24-21 on Friday in Magnolia.
The top-seeded Lady Eagles struggled on the offensive end in the first half, but after they employed a disruptive full-court press in the second, head coach Candace Felder-Hall’s team was able to claim a 18-16 lead.
The Lady Chiefs eventually figured out how to break through the pressure and convert in transition, and they were able to pull out the win in the end.
Amira Jackson tallied six points to lead the way for South Pike, while Deanna Lewis and Ayinah Varnado scored four each.
Alaysha Williams reeled in a team-high six rebounds, and she and KeNyia Walker tied for the lead with four steals apiece. Shalia Johnson assisted on three buckets as well.
The Lady Eagles finish their season with an 18-7 overall record and a 8-0 mark in district play.
