Supreme Court rejects death row appeal

The Mississippi Supreme Court rejected 5-4 an appeal Thursday from a death row inmate convicted of strangling a retired Amite County teacher in 1998. But an opposing justice, in a lengthy dissent, questioned the majority’s decision, writing that “justice is denied today.”
