A reported shooting outside McComb resulted in no injuries, the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the arrest of a man who took to the woods to elude authorities before being captured.
Pike County sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting around 2 p.m. Monday on Van Norman Curve just north of Highway 98 East.
Jeremy Walton, 29, of Jackson, Tenn., was charged with motor vehicle theft and possession of a stolen firearm. Officials said more charges could be pending.
Walton was allegedly trespassing on a property on Van Norman Curve when the shooting happened. Sheriff’s officials didn’t specify if Walton was accused of shooting at someone on the property.
By the time deputies arrived, Walton had fled into some nearby woods.
While searching for him, deputies found a blue Ford F-150 pickup parked nearby on the west side of the old Magnolia Electric building on the south side of Highway 98.
After contacting the vehicle’s owner, officials determined the truck had been stolen, and that Walton was allegedly seen driving the truck earlier that day.
