A Pike County man was arrested after a brief chase Tuesday afternoon, law officials said Wednesday.
Labradford Butler, 31, of Ruth was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, enhanced by possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, reckless driving and failure to yield to blue lights.
Officials said during a safety checkpoint near the intersection of Summit-Holmesville Road and Highway 570, Butler, driving a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria, allegedly made an illegal U-turn in an attempt to avoid the check point.
Deputies attempted to stop Butler, but he allegedly refused to stop his vehicle, leading a chase that ended when Butler struck a utility pole at the intersection of Argyle Street and Pearl River Avenue in McComb.
Butler allegedly fled on foot, but was apprehended later.
After the chase, deputies searched the vehicle, where they found a backpack containing a Thermos that held 56 grams of marijuana.
Deputies also found plastic bags, a scale and a handgun magazine in the vehicle. A gun was found near the vehicle that matched the magazine.
There were no injuries in the chase, and McComb Police assisted in the incident.
Chief Deputy Brad Bellipanni said there was another chase in the county Wednesday and that there would be more information to come Thursday.
In another arrest, Ricardo Markal Jackson, 33, of Summit, was charged with trafficking controlled substances, possession of paraphernalia, and multiple driving citations by the Mississippi Highway Patrol on Tuesday.
