McComb police have made an arrest in the January 2020 slaying of a man who was found shot dead while sitting in a chair beneath the downtown railroad bridge.
Nijoul White, 19, is charged with capital murder in the Jan. 9 killing of Justin “Jay” Burton, 24.
Burton was shot in the head while sitting in one of several decorative Adirondack chairs placed beneath the bridge, which was named after the Black Lives Matter movement months after the killing.
Detective Sgt. John Glapion made the arrest after investigating the case for nearly two years.
Capital murder charges are filed when someone is killed in the commission of another felony. Detective Sgt. Delre Smith said the capital charge was filed because items were missing from Burton’s body. Police are still trying to determine which underlying charge will be filed.
White was in the Pike County jail on $750,000 bond on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, no arrest has been made in a shooting death of Kedric Carter, 42, of Magnolia, who was found shot to death inside a car parked in a driveway on Pearl River Avenue early Thursday morning, detectives said.
