A McComb woman said she and her friend were robbed at gunpoint at a city park over the weekend and she knows who the suspect is, but police said their hands are tied until she files a report about the incident.
Madison Chandler posted to Facebook on Sunday that someone held up her and a friend at gunpoint and demanded money.
“Boy walks up w(ith) a big ole gun points it at me (i know exactly who he is ) and he says, ‘Give me all you got,’ ” Chandler wrote.
She said she didn’t have any cash, but her friend, who she did not identify, did.
“He goes to the driver side, points the gun at my friend and tells him give him some money,” she wrote. “We both keep begging him not to shoot.”
She said the robber kept his finger on the trigger through the ordeal, which ended when her friend gave up some cash.
“Luckily he had cash so he gave it to him and he walked off,” Chandler wrote.
She said she believed the robber would have shot them if they didn’t have any money to give.
Chandler said she knows who robbed her.
“The biggest mistake he could of made was letting me see his face!” she wrote, adding that she and the gunman played together when they were kids.
She posted — and deleted — a photo of the man she said robbed her but did not identify him.
Police Chief Garland Ward said he’s heard about the robbery, but not through any official sources because Chandler hadn’t filed a report as of Monday afternoon.
“We are aware of the situation and investigators are in contact with the person,” he said. “She did not call the police. She did not make a police report.”
Ward said Chandler also posted that others had discouraged her from making a report because her friend only lost $40 in the robbery, but the bigger issue involves more than the amount of money thats was lost.
“Until she comes down and files a report our hands are tied,” he said.
Ward said he’s had no other reports of robberies in the park, and encourages anyone who has been a victim there or anywhere in the city to report it.
“I’m not saying it’s not going on, I’m just saying they have not called the police,” he said.
Chandler didn’t respond to a message on Monday.
