A Louisiana man has been charged with three counts aggravated assault for a shootout at a rural residence outside Gloster, Amite County sheriff officials said.
Waylon Prevost Jr., 51, Abita Springs, La., is out of jail on $15,000 bond following the Wednesday night incident.
Investigator Danny Meaux said Prevost pulled up to a residence on New Hope Road around 8:30 p.m., argued with the homeowner from his vehicle, then opened fire with a 9mm pistol.
Three people were outside at the time but none were struck.
The homeowner, whom Meaux did not identify, returned fire with a 9mm, striking Prevost’s 2020 Chevrolet Z-71 four-door pickup truck multiple times.
After Prevost left, the homeowner called 911. Prevost drove to his hunting camp down the road and also called 911, saying his truck had been shot up.
Lawmen hold Prevost responsible for the incident.
“He fired the first shots and the homeowner fired in self-defense,” Meaux said.
Lawmen weren’t sure of the reason for the shooting.
“Alcohol’s going to be the factor,” Meaux said.
“We don’t know the reason. It’s still under investigation,” added Sheriff Tim Wroten.
