A couple’s argument led to the accidental shooting of a 4-year-old girl in a parking lot in McComb early Tuesday afternoon. Authorities were combing the city for the suspected gunman.
Chief Detective Victoria Carter said the shooting occurred after Michael D. Harris, 25, of McComb, got into an argument with his girlfriend, who is the girl’s mother, in the parking lot of the former M&P Daiquiri Shop on Summit Street. Carter did not identify the mother.
The adults were arguing outside a car in which the girl was sitting, Carter said. She said Harris allegedly fired shots during the argument. Carter said it wasn’t immediately clear what type of weapon was used.
The child has been treated at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center for a bullet wound in her forearm.
