Sen. Kelvin Butler, who will return to the state Capitol as a legislator for the first time in six years next month, has been assigned as vice chair of the Senate Housing Committee and will hold seats on seven other panels.
Butler was appointed to the Appropriations, Corrections, Economic and Workforce Development, Environmental Protection, Conservation and Water Resources, Forestry, and Labor and Municipalities committees.
Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann announced committee assignments on Tuesday.
Neither Butler, a Democrat from McComb, nor this area’s other state senator, Republican Melanie Sojourner of Natchez, have received committee chairmanships.
Sojourner is vice chairman of the Drug Policy Committee and also serves on the Agriculture, Corrections, County Affairs, Finance, Highways and Transportation, Labor, and Ports and Marine Resources committees.
Butler’s District 38 includes parts of Adams, Amite, Pike and Walthall counties and all of Wilkinson County. Sojourner’s District 37 includes parts of Adams, Amite, Franklin and Pike counties.
The Legislature convenes on Jan. 4.
