David Lee Brewer will be sworn in as Pike County Court Judge today during a retirement reception for his predecessor, John Price.
Brewer won a Nov. 29 runoff with 68% of the vote against Amelia Carter to be elected to the bench.
His term begins Jan. 1.
The gathering is scheduled for 5 p.m today. at the home of John and Jennifer McNeil at 1054 Hill Drive in McComb, where Price will administer the oath of office to Brewer.
“John was my State Championship Mock Trial Team’s coach in high school,” Brewer said. “I practiced in front of him regularly since 2005 as Youth Court Prosecutor, and since 2008 as County Prosecutor. He is a valued friend.”
Price served as county judge and youth court judge for almost 24 years. He did not seek re-election.
Born and raised working construction and service jobs, Brewer went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1993. he then served as a Missile Combat Crew Commander at Minot Air Force Base from 1993-95.
He serves as director of mentoring for the U.S. Air Force Academy Bolt Brotherhood Association.
As a practicing attorney for the better part of two decades, Brewer earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1998, and earned a Master’s of Social Science in sociology with a minor in psychology from Ole Miss in 2000.
Brewer said during the election that his experience as the county prosecutor and youth court prosecutor made the difference in winning the race.
Brewer also served as interim county attorney for Walthall County, interim Youth Court prosecutor for Walthall County and interim city prosecutor for Tylertown.
In 2009 and 2010, Brewer became vice-president of the Southwest Mississippi Bar Association. He also served as a judge for the Mississippi Mock Trial Competition.
