With February's arrival comes high school basketball playoff season in Pike County, and all four local schools are set to take part in district tournaments throughout this week.
Parklane Academy will host the MAIS 5A South-State Tournament from Tuesday-Saturday.
The second-seeded boys team takes on Adams County Christian at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, while the top-seeded girls face off with St. Aloysius at the same time on Wednesday.
Should either team advance, it would then play in the semifinal round on Friday night. Championship games will be held throughout Saturday afternoon.
Both South Pike's girls and boys basketball teams finished the regular season as the top teams in their district, so they each automatically qualified for the semifinal rounds of the 3A Region 7 tournament.
The boys will face the winner of the Jefferson County-Wesson matchup at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, while the girls will match up with the victor of the Franklin County-Port Gibson game at 4 p.m. on the same day.
Should the Eagles advance past the semifinals, the championship games would be held Friday night. Jefferson County is the host for that tournament.
North Pike is venturing to South Jones to compete in the 5A District 3 tournament, with both the girls and boys teams set to tip off their postseasons Monday night. The boys get Florence at 8:30 p.m. while the girls face Provine at 7 p.m.
Should either team win Monday, it would then play in the semifinals Tuesday. The boys team would take on top-seeded South Jones with a win while the Lady Jaguars would face Natchez.
McComb journeys to Raymond for its 4A District 6 tournament. The girls team takes on Richland at 7 p.m. Tuesday while the boys will face top-seeded Lanier right after.
Should either team emerge victorious, it would then play in the championship round Friday night.
