Southwest baseball played Rend Lake Community College in a two-game series at home on Friday, with the Bears winning both games, 5-4 and 4-2.
Game One ended 5-4 in a Bears walk-off win, the team’s fifth of the season.
Wyatt Garrett started on the mound for SMCC, pitching four innings with two strikeouts and three runs allowed.
Konnor Cazenave also pitched a pair of innings, allowing only one run. Nathan Carter pitched the final inning with one strikeout and picked up the win for the Bears.
Rend Lake went up 2-0 quickly in the top of the first inning.
Two innings later, the Bears tied it up 2-2. The two runs came off back-to-back singles from Tristain Haynes and Tanner Moore to get into scoring position.
Then, Justin Domiano scored Haynes and advanced Moore to third. In a rundown scenario, Moore scored at home followed by Domiano getting tagged out in the base path with the game tied 2-2.
Rend Lake scored in each of the next two innings, taking a 4-2 lead.
The Bears scored a run in the bottom of the sixth. Tanner Moore doubled to get into scoring position and scored after a Robbie Hokamp single bringing the score to 4-3 with Rend Lake leading.
Surviving the top of the final inning, the Bears found themselves down one with three outs left in the game.
Luke Simmons opened up the hitting with a single then got to third base after a steal and a sacrifice by Cam Bolden.
Tristain Haynes singled on a bunt scoring Luke Simmons in the process, tying the game 4-4.
Tanner Moore singled on a line drive to left field, scoring Tristain Haynes resulting in a Bears 5-4 walk-off win.
Tanner Moore had three hits in the contest. Robbie Hokamp and Tristain Haynes each had two hits. Justin Domiano and Luke Simmons both had a hit.
Tanner Moore, Justin Domiano, Robbie Hokamp, and Tristain Haynes each had one RBI.
Luke Simmons and Tristain Haynes stole bases in the game.
Game Two was another close one that ended in a 4-2 Bear win.
Rhyson Carroway started at pitcher for the Bears. Carroway pitched five innings and recorded nine strikeouts, allowing only one run in picking up the win for the Bears.
Brian Hankinson pitched an inning with one strikeout. Nik Carney also pitched an inning with one strikeout and picked up the save .
The Bears went up 4-0 early, scoring two runs in both the second and third inning.
The first two runs came after Drew Swan and Luke Simmons both reached base on singles. The pair scored on a Cam Bolden single to right field.
The next two runs came from Tristain Haynes getting on base on a walk, and Tanner Moore hitting a double to get both runners into scoring position.
Haynes scored and Moore advanced to third base after a Justin Domiano sac fly to center field.
A Robbie Hokamp single scored Tanner Moore for the last Bears run of the evening bringing them to a 4-0 lead.
The pitching would hold up for the Bears, as they allowed only two runs in the next four innings, leading to the Bears' 4-2 win.
Tanner Moore, Robbie Hokamp, Drew Swan, Luke Simmons, Cam Bolden and Tristain Haynes all had a hit in the game.
Cam Bolden had two RBIs while Justin Domiano and Robbie Hokamp each had one.
Tristain Haynes and Tanner Moore each had a double.
Robbie Hokamp had one stolen base as well.
