A suspected car thief is in custody after a multi-agency chase following a car theft and the taking of a 4-year-old child who was inside the vehicle Tuesday night.
Sheriff Wally Jones said the 4-year-old was found walking alone on Lynn Avenue in McComb around 8:30 p.m. and a passerby picked up the child and alerted authorities.
Jones said the child appears not to have been harmed.
Jones said the suspect was apprehended in Magnolia after 9 p.m.
The suspect's name was not immediately released.
Authorities said the child was inside a blue 2009 Pontiac G6 bearing the tag number PJD617 that was stolen from the Family Dollar in Magnolia Highway 51.
The child was not related to the suspect, Jones said.
