An apparent tornado damaged parts of Franklin County on Saturday afternoon as other parts of Southwest Mississippi braced for more storms through the night.
Pike County was under a series of tornado watches and warnings throughout the evening.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol reported that downed trees had all lanes of Highway 84 blocked around McCall Creek in Franklin County.
Some structural damage was reported in the area, including an auction house. Other damage was reported in the Berryhill community and in Bude.
Video footage posted to social media showed a twister gobbling up pine trees as it spun its way along Highway 84 in Franklin County.
State troopers were busy dealing with downed trees and power lines in the wake of the storms.
"Weather conditions are expected to worsen overnight in parts of our area. Troop M is currently dealing with fallen trees, debris, and downed power lines throughout the district," a statement from the Brookhaven-based troop read. "These hazards are being addressed as they occur, making it difficult to provide specific locations. If you must travel, stay alert and be prepared for obstructions, especially around curves and over hill crests."
