The administrative assistant in the McComb School District's central office confirmed that superintendent Johnnie Vick dismissed her Tuesday afternoon.
Nita Cameron had worked for the school district for about two years.
She said Vick called her into his office and told her he was releasing her because she blocked school board chairman Evelle Thomas-Dillon's calls to her cell phone. Cameron pointed out that she owns the phone, not the school district.
Vick's letter to her said, "On February 2nd, the school board president made an attempt to call you via your cell phone in an attempt to pick up a W-2 form. After unsuccessfully trying to contact you, she contacted the superintendent.
"You explained to me that you had blocked her from calling her phone because of comments that (were) made to you. In your position with the McComb school district, it is critical that (the) school board president and attorney are able to reach the superintendent's administrative assistant. Your actions will make it very difficult to operate the district.
"Your employment with the McComb School (District) is terminated on February 10, 2026."
In an interview Tuesday night, Cameron said she received a contentious call from Thomas-Dillon on Jan. 30 and blocked the board chairman from contacting her phone after that.
Cameron is the district's second high-profile job change in recent weeks. Around Feb. 1, school police chief Marcus Gatlin said his employment contract would not be renewed when it expires at the end of June. Gatlin reportedly was invited to remain on the security staff in a lower position.
