During the spring of 2024, William Frazier applied to be the defensive coordinator at Salem.
Instead the school asked him to become the head coach, a sizable jump in responsibility, especially when one is taking over a program that hasn’t finished over .500 since 2014.
Frazier’s inaugural season was filled with learning experiences. The Wildcats finished with an 0-10 record, with only one defeat coming by less than 20 points.
At the 1A level, the new head coach knew he had work to do in order to bring this program up to a competitive level.
But with a solid foundation in place and a stronger buy-in from the players, Frazier believes that his squad is ready to show signs of improvement in 2025.
And the schedule sets up favorably for Salem, with five games at home and no back-to-back road trips.
Frazier & Co. open their season at McLaurin on Aug. 29 before Wilkinson County and Richton visit over the next two weeks.
From there, the Wildcats visit Stringer, host Amite County and travel to face Discovery Christian as they close non-district action at the beginning of October.
The district-opener takes place Oct. 10 at home against West Lincoln, and Salem hosts Mount Olive the following week.
A road trip to face Bogue Chitto on Oct. 30 serves as the season finale.
