Marjorie Cook Cruise, 82, passed away Sept. 10, 2021, while surrounded by her family, after a long fight with Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia.
Visitation continues 9 a.m. today until services at 10 at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Shan Van Norman officiating and burial in Liberty Cemetery. Brown Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Cruise was born March 5, 1939, in Shreveport, La. and was raised in Liberty.
Margie loved people and seldom met a stranger. Her laugh was contagious. She was a dedicated wife, mother and Memaw.
She worked as a bank teller and loan officer in her early years. In her later years she enjoyed traveling with her husband. The couple traveled to and lived in Brazil, Holland, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Australia and Dubai. She told wonderful stories of her travels.
Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Joy “J.D.” Cruise; her son, Billy Cruise; and her parents, Frederick “Joe” Cook Jr. and Geraldine “Jerri” Cook.
She will be fondly remembered and always cherished by her children, Loy Cruise and wife Les of Gilbert, Ariz., Tony Cruise, Geralyn Cruise Kelly and husband Troy, all of Liberty, and Tammy and Randy Piazza of Houma, La.; her 11 grandchildren, Jake Cruise, Jesse Cruise, Joey Cruise, Stephanie Cruise Burton and husband Kyle, Amanda P. Naquin and husband Connor, Sarah Cruise, Will Cruise, Billy Van Norman, Katherine Billgren, Chris Kelly and Michael Kelly; seven great-grandchildren, Dreher Van Norman, Evers Pucket, Austin Burton, Carter Cruise, Ava Burton, Ada-Lyn Van Norman and Jo Jo Cruise; two brothers, Larry Cook and wife Lynn, and Freddie Cook and wife Diane; and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are her grandsons, Billy Van Norman, Dreher Van Norman, Will Cruise, Chris Kelly, Michael Kelly and Joey Cruise.
