The annual Shooting for Hope charity skeet shoot is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at Pine Ridge Shooting Center in Smithdale. Four-person teams will compete in skeet and trap for pride and prizes. The entry fee is $400 per team.

Five-year-old Aaryn Olivia Chase is this year’s event beneficiary. Aaryn Olivia was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia on Nov. 1, 2018. She and her mother, Jackie, have been at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., since Nov. 2.

Aaryn Olivia completed her second phase of high-dose chemotherapy on March 9 and will begin in the next few weeks on her third phase, consisting of 120 weeks maintenance chemotherapy treatments. Aaryn and Jackie are expected to remain in Memphis throughout these treatments.

Aaryn’s identical twin sister, Andie Grace, has been with family members in Clinton, La., during Aaryn’s stay at St. Jude. The family faithfully travels to Memphis each weekend to allow the girls to visit with one another.

The winning team will receive a saltwater fishing trip for four donated by Capt. Cuda Sheer with Sheer Thing Charters out of Cocodrie, La. Second place team prize is a quail hunt for four donated by Thornhill Shooting Preserve in Jayess.

Shooting for Hope Charity Skeet Shoot is the vision of Crye-Leike Stedman Realtors of Liberty and began in 2016. They wanted to do something to give back to the community that has been so generous to them. With that in mind, knowing several local families enduring hardships due to sick or disabled children, the idea of Shooting for Hope was born. Shooting for Hope Inc is a 501(C)3 nonprofit organization.

Pine Ridge Shooting Center is located in Smithdale and operated by Milt Burris. Pine Ridge Shooting Center offers skeet and trap on Tuesday and Sunday nights from 7 to 10 throughout the year, weather permitting.

This year we were able to round up some great sponsorships and put together a raffle package that would make any sportsman swoon.

Shooting for Hope would like to thank the many volunteers, sponsors and shooters who make this event possible. Without their support, Shooting for Hope would not be possible. A special thank you to all the supporters who donated products for the raffle: Walmart McComb, McComb Coca-Cola, Work Sharp Tools, Vortex Optics, Decibullz, Burris Optics, Hunter Specialty, Gun Dog Supply, Kenetrek Boots, HEC LLC, LEM Products, Fouth Arrow, Rapto Razor, C’Mere Deer, Mountain House, Spec Ops and Swhacker. We would also like to thank Austin Bean and Nathan Taylor with Southern Ag Credit of Brookhaven for their continued support and help with the event.

Pine Ridge Shooting Center is located at 5241 Hughey Road, Smithdale.
