Skynyrd dedication Dec. 17

Southwest Regional Medical Foundation will host a dedication for the Lynyrd Skynyrd Caregivers Monument on the front lawn of Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17. The marker will be  presented to the medical center in grateful appreciation to rescuers and caregivers for the tremendous care provided to the 20 survivors of the Lynyrd Skynyrd airplane crash on Oct. 20, 1977. From left are caregivers Mary Thornton, certified nurse practitioner at Gastroenterology Associates; Sheila Williams, registered nurse and assistant chief nursing officer at SMRMC; hospital CEO Norman Price; Dr. Henry Lewis, who helped pull victims from the airplane wreckage and treated them in the hospital; Bobby McDaniel and Pat Nelson, two of the leaders in the  Lynyrd Skynyrd Monument Project; and Carlyn Doyle, treasurer of the Southwest Regional Medical Foundation, which is the 501(c)3 non-profit that oversaw the project.
