Fiery crash near Dixie Springs

A two-car collision near the Dixie Springs exit on Interstate 55 Thursday led to a fiery aftermath, sending both drivers to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries. Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Trooper Craig James said the wreck occurred at 12:29 p.m.  when a northbound Kia Optima rear-ended a Ford van in the left lane and went into the wooded median, where the Kia caught fire. Troopers pulled the driver out, and he was taken to University of Mississipi Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the van, Johnathan Cornelius Jackson Sr., 43, of Jackson, went to Southwest Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver of the Kia wasn’t immediately identified.
