Juvenile center inspected

Posted: Thursday, November 1, 2012 2:00 pm

The Southern Poverty Law Center will release the results of its inspection of the Pike County Juvenile Detention Center in about a week, but there appears to be little doubt the juvenile center falls short of federal standards.

On Monday, five people from SPLC toured the juvenile center, which is located in the old McComb jail at Fifth Avenue and Railroad Boulevard.

It is not the inmates fault they have to be housed under inhumane conditions. The government locks these inmates up and treat them like animals. Most of them are not criminals only because of traffic tickets unpaid or small things like that. They are not locked up to be made slaves when there people who are getting paid good checks to keep that facilty clean. so you mean to tell me, These inmates have to do someone else's job and allow them to get paid?? My goodness if the facility fall under federal standards there is no telling what other conditions they are falling short of. So this is what our Tax Dollars pay for?? Hmmf...There are so many things going on this world that we have no control over but somethings can be done to help improve.

Why not make these "inmates" be responsible for the cleaning of the facility? Sounds appropriate to me. Teach them some responsibility and possibly they will not be as prone to let it get in that nasty condition. They are not there for being on their best behavior. I am not in favor of any kind of abuse, but give them some responsibilities. If they choose not to do this, they deserve to live in the filth. And, they can "be good" and stay out of there!!! I know that it is not all of them that mess the place up, but possibly peer pressure can help encourage some good hygiene practice.
