The bodies of a 19-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy have been recovered after the two had been reported missing the day before, Pike County Investigator Chris Bell confirmed Friday afternoon.

Both had drowned.

The bodies of Laterrius Wilkinson, 19, of McComb, and Zechariah White, 13, also of McComb, were recovered at the Holmesville bridge of the Bogue Chitto river around midday Friday, said Bell.

At about 7:40 p.m. on Thursday, the Pike County Sheriff’s office received a call about a group of people who were swimming at the Bogue Chitto river. The caller said that two of the people who had been swimming in the river could not be found, said Pike County Sheriff Kenny Cotton.

Search teams combed the river throughout the evening and overnight, said Cotton.

The bodies were recovered by search and rescue teams the next afternoon, he said.

The two most likely drowned after swimming in a deep area of the river, said Bell.
