Danny Corban, owner of Corbanville Grocery, was shot to death outside his home near the store Friday night. No one has been arrested.

Everyone knows everyone and everyones related in some kind of way .There breaking into people's cars and they know who's doing it. It's sad to say they really need someone who's neutral to run this town . Really wish Betty Stevens would have won the mayor's election.too many related in charge . -A Neutral Person !!!

Its a shame whats happening in the town of Gloster. So much crime and drugs is taking over. I have numerous family members that reside in Gloster & I visit during the holidays. Nothing has changed. Everytime I come home things have gotten worse, more stores have shut down and more lives are being lost. Innocent victims. Ive been deployed to Iraq twice but can see clearly that war is not only in that country. Its in ours too. I just hope that the town of Gloster will become a safer place. I remember going to Mr. Corbans store numerous times whenever I came to visit. He was a very kind man. I hate that this had to take place. Something needs to be done and the justice needs to be served so his family members can have peace. My heart and condolences go out to all those affected. -A U.S. Soldier

You know, I can't help but laugh when I read the last comment on this new article! “There’s not a lot of open drug dealing that goes on.” Quote unquote! Apparently someone has blinders on not to be able to see the drugs that are floating in Gloster. Let me say thing, if someone doesn't take notice to all the people that are commenting on this article and get down to Gloster and really investigate, Mr Danny will not be the last person that loosing his or her life. But wait, that only leaves the C Store now for late night business, and everyone knows there is a police officer there. I personally would like to see a higher force, and not the Sheriff's office either, come into town, and just sit around and watch, talk to the citizens, you know people are scared to make calls to report what they see due to the fact, their name may get out and who knows what will happen to them or their homes. I know this in all over, but trust me, it's like roaches in Gloster, crawling with them. I pray for Gloster and the few good people that are fighting for their town, may God spare anymore sadness in this once safe and beautiful town!! -justacountrygirl

Don't bother posting a comment in favor of Gloster here. It won't get posted. Mine didn't.

I grew up and went through 12 years of school in Gloster. Gloster at one time was a beautiful little town. Frankly, it is now dis- heartening and depressing to return there. The only reason I go back is to visit the graves of Mama and Daddy and other relatives in the local cemetery.

I have checked the web to find crime statistics in Gloster and Amite County, but have been unable to find anything current. Drug abuse is a huge problem in this small town and I am curious about the number of drug arrests and robberies since the two are often related. The Police Chief and the Sheriff need to be held accountable and do what they were hired to do.

Chief Lee here is a message for you, Everyone in Town is Lying and making these things up and you're the only one that is telling the truth I guess! Why don't you please explain why the MBN can come to town and make drug arrest at the exact residences you say is nothing going on??? MAybe you can explain why the only Police officer on duty has to be at three local businesses at their closing times instead of them hiring night guards. It's an election year so lets be truthful here please.

The Gloster PD needs to get with the Jackson, MS PD to do ballistic testing on the weapon used to kill the convenience store clerk in Jackson last week and compare the ammo type. Since one of the perps in the Jackson incident was apprehended in Clinton, LA area and with Gloster being along a route used to get to Clinton it could possibly be the same person or people committing both crimes.

I must wonder who Jay Nauta is supporting for sheriff. Chief Lee is doing the best he can with what he has to work. Blaming the police for crime is like blaming God for rampant sin -- it just makes no sense. Finding the depraved individual who did this should be the focus and not blaming the police. Let's not play politics with this, please.

I was saddened to hear of the death of Danny Corban. I moved from Gloster a while ago but keep up with the town through family that still live there and the E-J online. I remember a recent article on Gloster about fines for sagging pants. While sagging pants are bothersome and I don't care to see people's underwear either, it seems that recent events prove what I had thought earlier, Gloster has more to worry about than sagging pants. Danny was a quiet, peacful man. It is a shame that crime took his life. I hope Gloster gets it's priorities right and finds justice for Danny Corban.

Is Gloster Police Chief Tommie Lee effectively managing to serve and protect the people of Gloster? By his own admission, he cut back on weekend, night-time patrols due to "overtime" and a murder occurred. However, he does "hope" to have some "part-time help soon" because he has "one person doing the job of 2 or 3." Of course Chief Lee can't be counted on to help out on weekend, night time patrols because he is working as a sheriff's deputy on that shift!
