An Amite County man is facing murder charges after he allegedly shot a relative in the head during an argument between family members over the weekend, Sheriff Tim Wroten said.
James Anderson, 49, was booked into the county jail Monday night in connection with the shooting death of Rahyme Young, 30.
Wroten said the shooting occurred Sunday night after Young and other family members got into an argument and started fighting in the yard of Anderson’s home on Bates School Road, where Young, who lived in Belize, was staying while visiting relatives.
Anderson allegedly went inside the home, retrieved a .30-30 rifle and shot Young, Wroten said.
“Mr. Anderson came out while the victim was pinned on the ground and Mr. Anderson fired one shot, striking the victim in the head,” the sheriff said.
Wroten said he’s not sure what the argument that led to the shooting was about.
“They were just sitting around drinking and barbecuing and just an altercation broke out,” he said, adding that the argument involved Young and another relative but Anderson intervened. “They were fist fighting in the yard.”
No one else is facing charges in connection with Young’s death, Wroten said.
