A Mississippi Department of Corrections inmate housed in Pike County escaped a supervised work detail in Lincoln County on Monday afternoon, an MDOC spokesperson said.

Authorities are searching for Dennis Farrell Blansett, 46, who was being held in the Pike County Community Work Center in Magnolia.

He left his work detail along Highway 51, MDOC Communications Director Grace Fisher said.

Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said Blansett was picking up trash about three miles north of Bogue Chitto when he slipped away around 1 p.m.

Blansett is a white male, 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. He has hazel eyes and bushy salt-and-pepper colored hair.

He is serving a 30 years on burglary and motor vehicle theft charges, Fisher said.

Blansett has ties to the Foxworth Community of Marion County, sheriff’s officials there said.

Anyone with information on Blansett’s whereabouts is asked to call the MDOC at (662)-745-6611, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department at (601)-833-5231 or a local law enforcement agency.
