LIBERTY — An Amite County High School graduate will sign copies of her new book from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Liberty Library.
Gisel Haralson of Baton Rouge will sign copies of “More Than Just Sex: It’s the Art of the Chase; African American Women Defining Themselves, Black Men, Each Other, Relationships, and Secrets to Love and Happiness.”

Haralson received her bachelor of science in child development and a master’s degree in sociology from Southern University. The majority of her professional career has been spent educating, inspiring and motivating women, mostly single parents, to become self-sufficient. The work led to graduate study research and the book.

Haralson is vice president of the board for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused children, and is a graduate of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber’s Leadership Program.

She received the National Association for Family Childcare Leadership Award for her work with home childcare providers.

The book looks at the lives of African American women as they seek love and happiness, examining what they really want from relationships and how they view men, each other and sex.
Haralson said she was motivated to write the book by conversations she had with women struggling with the challenges of finding a fulfilling relationship. After speaking to hundreds of women for more than a decade, she began capturing their opinions and advice.

The 114-page paperback book sells for $12.95 and is published by Booklocker.com Inc.
