Posted: 07/31/09 - 12:15:12 pm CDT

The Mississippi Fire Marshal’s office is continuing its investigation into the cause of a Wednesday night fire that destroyed a house at 1121 28th St. and resulted in the death of Joe Martin.

Pike County Coroner Percy Pittman said the preliminary autopsy report on Martin, 65, indicated the cause of death as smoke inhalation.

According to McComb Fire Department reports, the first firefighters responding to the 10:36 p.m. fire arrived to find the house engulfed in flames.

Firefighters found Martin, a former bail bondsman and avid golfer and bowler, lying on the floor of his bathroom.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Pittman.
