Patterson’s Thursday letter to selectmen

Posted: 11/21/08 - 01:57:31 pm CST

Dear Selectmen Nobles and Selectman Lamb:
I am in receipt of your “Special Call Meeting of The Board of Mayor and Selectmen” dated Nov. 20.

I, your mayor and duly elected presiding officer of all meetings of the Board of Mayor and Selectmen, will not be in attendance tonight, for I have been enduring this battle with a cold for over three days now and will continue my recuperation in the surroundings of my warm home.

Secondly, I have reviewed the three (3) items which you would like to discuss. None of the three (3) items listed, in my opinion, warrant the urgency of a special call meeting of the governing body. Besides, my position on all three (3) items is well known by both of you and my position remains unchanged.

Please pass on my regrets, welcome and warm regards to the new interim city attorney, Attorney Angela Taylor Miller. I am sure both of you join with me in congratulating Attorney Miller and welcoming her as the newest appointed officer of the beautiful city of McComb, Miss.

See you next week, same time, same place, hopefully.
Sincerely,

Zach Patterson, Mayor

" Batman is a mayor hater too! BATMAN FOR MAYOR! Remember that Toni! Batman participates! Batman improves life! McComb needs Batman! "

" THIS mayor hater DOES do something daily. I work. I pay taxes. I shop locally. I spend money in the city. And I have every right in the world to criticize where my money is going and the "leader" who is screwing up this fair city. The Mayor had no problem typing up a letter and skipping out on a special called meeting due to a common cold. Direct your ire in his direction. Last I checked, the Mayor wasn't too keen on participating in anything that might be to his detriment. "

" If only one of you daily complainers (Mayor haters) would do one thing daily to improve life in the city of McComb, maybe we could tolerate you. It's easy to sit on your computer behinds and criticize hatefully. It's a lot harder to participate. "

" When the going gets tough, the tough write letters ? I'm sure that's not right. Who in McComb will get all these folks together and make peace. What could you possibly be doing constructive while you're bickering over this and that and who's in charge of what. When you serve in Government, it's not always about you, but the Greater Good that has to be considered. Sometimes you lose a battle that you consider important, for the Greater Good. How many letters of commendation have been issued in the last year. How many good things have citizens, children, teachers, police, fire fighters, ems done that don't get talked about because of all the displaced energy that this government is spewing. In all my years, I've known several administrations, and despite disagreements .. the business got handled. SHAME ON YOU ALL FOR NOT WORKING THIS OUT.. Is this the lesson you like teaching all the young kids in town ? Hey if things don't go your way... just take your toys and don't show up at the playground again. I've said it before LEADERSHIP IS WHAT'S MISSING HERE...AND THAT DOESN'T HAVE TO COME FROM THE MAYOR. Come on guys...GET A GRIP.... "

" If Mr. Esch can come back after a massive heart attack, by golly, Zach should suck it up and tend to business, regardless of a COLD.

I just wish ALL of us had the luxury of not going to work when we are sick! Those of us in the real world don't have that option.

Absent a doctor's excuse, I say the Mayor should be suspended for "dereliction of duty." Without pay, since he obviously doesn't need it. "
