McComb’s city board is expected to vote on the possible creation of a Board of Adjustments tonight — a body that would handle appeals against city zoning, planning or permit decisions.
The move follows a planning commission decision this month to recommend a new zoning designation for Summit Street and a subsequent request for such an appeal.
The decision came after a series of hearings in which competing proposals differed on whether or not to allow alcohol sales, convenience stores and mechanic shops among new businesses. Supporters of the recommended plan had petitioned the planning commission to rule in their favor.
A Board of Adjustments is mandated in Appendix A Article VII Sec. 7.1 of the city’s charter, concerning land usage. City Administrator Jim Storer said today the board had been defunct for several years.
