Reese to retire

Columnist Charley Reese, saying that writing for editorial pages three times a week requires “energy to do the research and an alertness of the mind that I can no longer muster,” is announcing his retirement in today’s Enterprise-Journal.
Reese, whose work began running in the newspaper after the 1994 death of columnist Lewis Grizzard, infuriated both Democrats and Republicans over the years. A harsh critic of President Clinton in the 1990s, Reese turned on President Bush in recent years after the invasion of Iraq. His final column is on Page A4 today.
