Jeremy Barron Townsend, Dr. Gene Simmons, Ruth Naomi LeViere, Larry Stanford McDaniel, Lynn Elwin Boyd



Jeremy Barron Townsend

Jeremy Barron Townsend, infant son of Anthony Townsend and Tammy Barron Townsend of Wesson, died July 18, 2008, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven.

Family graveside services are 10 a.m. Thursday in Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Tommie Roberts officiating and Catchings Funeral Home in McComb handling arrangements.

Jeremy was born July 18, 2008, in Brookhaven.
Jeremy was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Floyd and Althea Stark.

Survivors include his parents; maternal grandparents, Tim and Jeannie Barron of Smithdale; paternal grandparents, Larry and Patsy Townsend of Smithdale; maternal great-grandparents, Tommie and Dot Roberts of Jayess; and a host of other relatives.




Dr. Gene Simmons
Dr. Gene Simmons, 65, of Mobile, Ala., died July 21, 2008, at Baton Rouge General Hospital.

Graveside services were 2 p.m. today in Tylertown Cemetery, with the Rev. Nell Maki officiating. Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home in Tylertown was in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Simmons was born Oct. 17, 1942, in Columbia. He was the son of the late William Lloyd and Margaret Conner Simmons.

He was a college professor with his doctorate degree in computer science.

Survivors include a son, Scott Simmons and wife Holly of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Kris Prescott and husband Christopher of Baytown, Texas; a brother, Bill Simmons of Mobile; and three grandchildren, Katelynne, James and Ashleigh Prescott.



Ruth Naomi LeViere

Ruth Naomi LeViere, 92, of Bogue Chitto, died July 20, 2008, at her son’s home in Shepherd, Mich.

Visitation is noon Thursday at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Drive in Brookhaven, until services there at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Arlington Baptist Church Cemetery in Lincoln County.

Mrs. LeViere was born Aug. 30, 1915, in Adrian, Pa., to James and Lettie Montgomery Frick.

She spent her life alongside her husband, the Rev. Raymond Ralph LeViere in the Baptist pastorate, home missions and church planting in the northeastern United States.

Her family said she was an exemplary pastor’s wife with a servant’s heart and a deep love for Jesus Christ. Her life was dedicated to taking care of people and meeting their needs. She loved sharing her faith with everyone and never missed an opportunity to tell people about God’s love and mercy. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman. Her children and grandchildren rise up and call her blessed.

Mrs. LeViere was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Richard Charles LeViere; a daughter, Beverly Ruth Montgomery; two sisters, Elizabeth Osborne and Yetta Scott; five brothers, Robert, George, Joseph, James and Harry Frick; a grandchild, Joseph Charles LeViere; and two great-grandchildren, Daniel Christopher Foster and Laura Jane Geiger.

Survivors include a son, Raymond James LeViere and wife Susan of Shepherd; a son-in-law, Sonny Montgomery of Bogue Chitto; grandchildren, Debra Smith and Brenda Foster, both of Brookhaven, David Montgomery of Bogue Chitto, Richard LeViere of Texas, Michael LeViere of West Virginia, Linnea Geiger of Virginia, Daniel LeViere of Coleman, Mich., Rachel Nagel of Midland, Mich., and John LeViere, Timothy LeViere, Bethany Disel, Sara Hill, Mary LeViere and Hannah LeViere, all of Shepherd; 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.




Larry Stanford McDaniel

Larry Stanford McDaniel, 64, of Summit, died July 21, 2008, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.

Visitation is 5 to 9 tonight at Johnston Chapel United Methodist Church in Summit, then 9 a.m. Thursday until services there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Bill Poole and the Rev. Glen Martin will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McDaniel was born May 17, 1944, in Summit. He was the son of Euna Kay Bigner McDaniel of Summit and the late Stafford McDaniel.

He was a faithful member of Johnston Chapel United Methodist Church in Summit and was employed for 38 years by CenterPoint Energy in Brookhaven. He served in the 155th Mississippi National Guard Unit during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Masons, affiliated with Summit Lodge No. 231. He also served on the North Pike school board for 10 years, where he was a past president. His most exciting memory was to be chosen as a candidate for the NASA Teacher in Space training program.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Ruth Deer McDaniel of Summit; his mother, Euna Kay; two sons, Larry Scott McDaniel and Jonathan Shay McDaniel with special friend Stephanie Greene, all of Summit; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Shannon Dunaway of Summit, Shirley and Les Brumfield of Kentwood, La., Sharron and Gordon Albritton of Jasper, Ala., and Sherry and John Armstrong of Conroe, Texas; a godchild, Adrian Brown of Pensacola, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be Charles Andrews, Charles Bigner, Glen Johnston, Joe Jackson, Marion Johnston and Hugh “Boots” Stringer.

Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Rogers, David Deer, Pat Freeman, Daniel Bales, Larry Yawn and Ted Lofton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Johnston Chapel United Method Church Gym Floor Fund, 2093 Chapel Drive, Summit, MS 39666.




Lynn Elwin Boyd

Lynn Elwin Boyd, 65, of Pricedale died July 22, 2008.

Arrangements are incomplete with Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb in charge.
